WINNERS NEVER QUIT; QUITTERS NEVER WIN

Martin Bashir (MSNBC) started his show with that quote.  It is my expectation that the backers of the Republican Right will manipulate and cheat and would love to be proven wrong.  I just cannot imagine how they can do it; fixing Diebold programming? It is amazing how the lies fly around.  Perhaps the media should show better discretion about whom they allow to represent the positions of the candidates on national TV  The contradictions and lies are enough to put the average person in a mental hospital, breaking down from trying to figure out who is right or wrong.

I'm not clear as to the reason chose for the quote with which Mr. Bashi started the show,  Neither candidate plans to quit but only one will win the election if the voting count is honestly tabulated.  Voter suppression is still going strong in GOP states...It is being attempted in 33 states.  We do not have much more time to prevent too much of that happening.  Somehow gracious loser does not enter an image of Republicans when I think of it.

When one listens to the quotes on video from Mr. Akin, one wonders how people can possibly, in good conscience, vote for him unless they really are that easily turned stupid.
Obama, stay safe and healthy.  We need you desperately.

FURTHER PROOF THAT LITTLE IN LIFE IS SIMPLE

On September 24th, I wrote about free speech.
The First Amendment is as it should be in a democracy but my argument was and still is, that it was meant to one's right to express an opinion, not to slander, endanger, or be deceitful to negative result to others.  At least that is my belief.  Since we clearly could not find the man who published that YouTube on Mohammed that those who have seen it find disgusting and disgraceful,

However, I argued that there should be judgment used.  BBC ran an article today that the man who made that film (while he could not be held responsible under his right to free speech) might well raise questions about his judgment.  He is being held for violation of probation.  What he produced for YouTube was not illegal but a violation of his probation; was not a wise choice on his part and he is not being permitted to leave the country to hide, His picture has been posted publicly, and he is being targeted with a wealthy Pakistani man who put up $100,000 bounty for his death.

My argument continues.  Regardless of our right to insult people freely, we must be aware that the consequences may be unpredictable and rather dangerous to the insulter.  This should be taught to children from a very young age.  Their actions do have consequences, and label them as a result.  If they steal they will remain thieves or untrustworthy in the eyes of many.  If they are verbal bullies, they may find themselves ganged up on in the school yard or the sports field.  Without these experiences and realization of results of our actions, we will never be socialized or fit into our society as we currently define it.

KEEPING PRIORITIES STRAIGHT

Apparently there has been a rather active movement in the US lately to get rid of unions.I think it is part of the inability to accept change and roll things back to the 'good old days' just after Christ died.  For those of us who do not have a sofa permanently attached to our bottoms, we may have missed the latest NFL fiasco.  Since the referees were on strike, (who of us caught up only with the political campaigns of the moment would have known?) some non-union guys were brought in.  I guess it is a 'guy' thing because I have never seen a female referee.  Apparently unaware of the wonderful technology of video and instant playback, the referees hired had no knowledge of what they could have done to enhance their slow reaction time, bad eyesight, or just total stupidity; a call was made that cost a team the game unfairly.  As people examined the video it become clear that the call was in error.  Amazingly the union guys became  sought after once again, the dispute resolved and the strike stopped..

Do you suppose, if men could get pregnant, contraception for women would be made as readily available as condoms are?.  Girls and nuns have been deflorated by priests for as long as Catholicism has graced our lives. The consequences to nuns were handled for years at the House of the Good Shepherd, now extinct as a necessity since abortion was made legal (at least in Massachusetts).

In an Ann Romney interview today she called her husband cheap because he turned the hot water heater off when they left the house.  I presume that wasn't when he went to the local Mom and Pop store for ice cream but when they would be away for a season from their New Hampshire home or their California home or one of those many places they conveniently call home if there is a tax savings. Good Heavens, you have to save a little energy here or there like that which can add up to pennies in no time and then to dollars, and Lord knows when that slippery slope will stop rolling things down.  I presume the five story elevator for cars was also in the interest of frugality (whoops, no she called him cheap, not frugal).

How people figure their priorities surely does puzzle one, doesn't it?

ISN'T IT BETTER TO SEE NO LIFE THAN TO DIE IN CHILDHOOD FROM BRUTALITY, MALNUTRITION, AND NEGLECT?

In the past, I have written about the Republicans playing God, determining that any fertilized egg should become an born, unwanted human child. Do those who push this on people realize what they are doing to that child?  Obviously not!  The statistics to children born to parents who either didn't want them or are incapable of parenting them make a mockery out of Republican logic. Romney's solution is that students will advance with the help of their parents.  Does that factor in the parents who divorced because they hate each other and couldn't obtain an abortion.

BBC News ran an article:  America's Child Death Shame   It starts with:  "Every five hours a child dies from abuse or neglect in the US.

The latest government figures show an estimated 1,770 children were killed as a result of maltreatment in 2009.

A recent congressional report concludes the real number could be nearer 2,500.

In fact, America has the worst child abuse record in the industrialized world. Why? BBC's Natalia Antelava investigates." Watch the video.

ROMNEY ACCUSES OBAMA OF ALL THE DEFICITS ROMNEY, HIMSELF, HAS.

There seem to be many in Congress who believe that unless we police the world while our citizens starve and are uneducated, or medically treated we will be seen as weak.  Women are usually less in a rush to send their sons and daughters off to war.  Perhaps that is why we need more women represented in the House and Senate.

On Tuesday, October 2nd, 2012, President Obama  will argue his administration will have a muscular and active policy in the Middle East, an effort to counter recent criticism from Mitt Romney. Read the complete article from THE HILL here.  It would appear that Romney does not understand diplomacy and covert efforts in solving problems.

I suggest reading the following Bloombeerg article to get a better picture of Romney's thinking on foreign policy. Click here. Haven't we been burdened by the Republicans long enough with unpaid wars?

WHAT IS THE COST OF FREE SPEECH?

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog on Free Speech and Judgment.  I do not find anything wrong with our Constitution for allowing us freedom of expression.  However, material things such as money, weapons, fists, verbal attacks made public and defaming one's character do not qualify in my mind as 'speech'. Just as we cannot yell "Fore!" in a theater because we have experienced too many deaths from people trying to flee small quarters, we need to also be aware that the US Supreme Cort which ruled that corporations are people and should be allowed (under freedom of speech) to pay whatever they wish toward campaign financing.  I realize that it is most likely someone (possibly Scalia, since he was the one who claims to have turned the vote to what it finally became) was somehow in the pocket of the Republicans or their surrogates.

It is my belief that Free Speech is not being interpreted as our Founding Fathers meant it to be.  It would be good to see time spent on reinterpreting exactly what is permissible under free speech.  Clearly, not everything should be.  In some instances, as the more recent film denigrating Islam's religion, he did nothing against our laws.  However, in view of past attitudes such as the jihad against  Salman Rushdie which has been ongoing for twenty three years.  Recently, as he has traveled in England and New York unguarded, the price on his head  has been reiterated.with a new price tag on  his death.

Within this article:
"The producer of the film, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, is reportedly a Los Angeles-based 55-year-old Egyptian Copt and convicted fraudster, currently out on parole.
US media reports say Nakoula wrote and produced the film, using the pseudonym Sam Bacile before being identified. Police questioned him before he went into hiding with his family.?  Wikipedia describes this man in great detail.

While our speech may be free in our country, with the Internet and media coverage traveling around the world so quickly and so detailed,it is a wonder more have not been attacked for their offensiveness.  When our speech travels around the world it is subjected to other values and perceptions  We do not permit defamation of character and lewdness,  We have rules about what can be said on TV to young audiences or prime time. In fact, there are many things we are not allowed by law to say, much defined by work place and places of worship, and these places are where judgment comes in even though no law may be being broken. In WWII, it was common to hear "Loose lips sink ships.  Using one's judgment about the safety to others as well as ourselves should always be kept in mind.  We may have a right to free speech in the USA but not everywhere..

WHO IS THE REAL ROMNEY; WILL WE EVER KNOW?

Nancy L. Cohen (historian, author and contributor to the Huffington Post. Her latest book is Delirium: The Politics of Sex in America.) has written an article questioning whether Romney can keep his religion out of his politics.  She raises many good questions with reference to interviews of people he counseled as a Mormon bishop.  Those interviews were less than complimentary to his attitudes toward women.   It seems he did not believe that mothers should work and had many attitudes which are inconsistent with where women are today in the work world and in their marriages, or lack of them.

I suggest you read the article and form your own conclusions.  My own were formed.against Romney as my president for many reasons over the past several months.  I feel he lacks substance and behaves like a puppet though we do not know who, exactly, is pulling the strings.  Grover Norquist implied that whoever became the Republican president would do as he was told but never said who would be doing the telling.

I strongly urge you to read this article by clicking here. As with all decisions on voting in this election, you will have many opportunities to see the man objectively if you have the capacity to do so.  A vote against someone is a poor decision.  The 'devil you know may be better than the devil you don't know'.
