PEOPLE NOT VOTED INTO OFFICE BUT THINK THEY CAN RUN THE WORLD ANYWAY

When Sarah Palin speaks, the association which comes to mind is the Gentile definition of chutzpah: ' The child who murders his parents and then falls on his knees to appeal mercy from the court as an orphan.'  Her inflated ego dares to make her speak as though she is above President Obama in competence and experience.  She spoke in her speech before the Republican Conference in New Orleans about his having no knowledge about nuclear warfare and, I believe, foreign policy, sarcastically commenting that he had gained it when he was a community organizer. That should be beneath anyone worthy of respect.  She never got out of Middle School with that kind of game play.
She later commented on his part-time senatorial service, most of it spent on running his campaign.  The woman must be blind as she looks into the distorted mirror through which she sees.  She was only a half-time governor for the half term she served and spent her time campaigning.  People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones but she still tosses boulders.

Glenn Beck did not do himself or his country a service when he shamefully listed every bias he has to all but white men as he suggested his recommendations to President Obama for Supreme Court ju appointment.  In his bigoted way, he suggested a black woman, homosexual, disabled, immigrant should be chosen and then went on to babble some idiocy as to his reasons.

Words have great meaning but it is what they mean to the listener that is important,  the intent of the speaker is. not important  An intelligent person would understand that some words are incendiary; where they are spoken has meaning.  We can all say 'fire' as often as we wish, but dare not yell 'fire' in a theater.  These two persons stir up violent feelings while professing that they mean nothing from words like revolution, reload, kill, and other similarly poorly thought out use of words if one intends to unite people rather than be divisive.  They seem to be using the 'divide and conquer' for the country, but who then would take over?.

It saddens me to think that our media world is filled with this vitriolic hate, such a poor choice of exercising rights to free speech for elucidation, sharing ideas and opinions, rather than rabble rousing.  The few hate calls played by the media to illustrate the threats to politicians is very scary to me.  I don't feel like a Chicken Little nor do I believe the sky is falling.  However, I do believe that we have clear evidence from many media personalities that they do not wish to bring us together as a Nation but, rather, to continue with fostering distrust, as during the previous administration.

President Obama should stop trying to be the vehicle for healing the split political factions by inviting the Republicans in.  Instead, he should keep passing good bills for the people and continue to help make jobs to raise the economy as much as he is permitted by the House and Senate  The current Republican party .has made it eminently clear that their priority is to exercise as much control of the country as they can though they were voted out of its administration.  They have split themselves off to many obstructive factions and can no longer command respect from intelligent, well-informed people.

NEWS THAT WE DON'T SEE HERE

Every once in a while it becomes too tiring to watch world, political, or the current depressing news our providers choose to drown us in.  In Britain, a delightful little 'extra' affords hope that people still do spontaneous things for amusement and enkightenment.

This is a peek at what America could do well to emulate.  Click here.  Enjoy a bit of what we should all share in....that which is also REALLY going on in the world . Our existence is being threatened by our elected, greedy, unfeeling politicians, bankers, corporations, terrorists both foreign and domestic, and so many others who should be helping us to survive.  With luck, humans may survive enough to better things some day.

SOME MALAPROPISMS ARE REALLY CLOSE AND FUNNY

Urban dictionary often uses what appear to be malapropisms, though deliberate at times, are funny and right on.  One recently was 'self-defacating' , a play on self-depracating.  While not spontaneous as true malapropisms, I look for laughs wherever I can find them.

A friend told me of an uncle-in-law who said he was going to paint.  He said I am going to 'polyurinate' the table, though I strongly suspect he might have meant polyurethane. He also asked his renter upstairs if she bought a 'condom' yet, meaning condo.  Another woman on the Phil Donahue show clearly meant prophylactics and said 'propolappies'..

My mother for whom English was not her first language had some interesting concepts but translated them in interesting ways One I always enjoyed was, meaning inspector, the 'expector' is coming to see if we are doing something wrong. My mother for whom English was not her first language had some interesting concepts but translated them in interesting ways.  She knew that products not made in the US were more costly, frequently.  She asked me to buy some feta cheese for her and said, "I don't want that stuff they make here, I want that 'important' cheese", obviously meaning imported.

Sometimes I enjoy them so much I use them deliberately since I have great difficulty reading technical manuals and understanding them.  Consequently I have adopted, 'When all else fails, read the destructions'.  If you enjoy words as much as I do, perhaps you will enjoy this site.

A SITE TO BEHOLD

Too often we are unclear about what we are being told is true.  We wonder if the people who really know what has happened are telling or are being heard.  Now, with the help of Wikileaks, published in Sweden since 2006,  whistle-blowers  have a voice to the majority who care to check in to this siteWikileaks is a Swedish-hosted website that publishes anonymous submissions and leaks of sensitive documents from governments and other organizations, while preserving the anonymity of its sources.

As a result of Wikileaks, the world was shown a bit of film which makes war more graphic from which we have  at times, been spared.  With fewer ways to hide behind special privileges,  the citizens of the world who have not chosen to go into politics might get a glimpse of where they might join forces to make the world a better place.

TOSS HUMANISTIC CONCERNS AND SPEND MONEY ON A USELESS WHIM

There have been discussions about the petition to Congress to change the picture on the $50 bill from Grant to Reagan.  With so many people in need of food and shelter in the US...to say nothing of many other needs, I'm shocked that someone can even think of taking on the enormous costs of changing a $50 bill.  One does not just decree change and have it happen.  Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry's bill would replace Grant with Reagan.

(The Grant $50 note, like the rest of our paper currency, went through its own overhaul not long ago, with a new design and updated security features, pictured here by Alex Wong / Getty Images). An article from The Swamp gives more details.

Regardless of those who think it is as similar as just changing printing a new picture onto new bills.  It should not come as a surprise that the petition comes from a Republican politician.

My plea is simple.  Feed the children, educate them, tend to their medical needs first!!!  After that, let the request work itself up the priority ladder which might have it reach the top by the year 2020!  Better still, let those to whom it is important donate out of their pockets, not mine..

WE DO NOT OWN OUR OWN BODIES ANY LONGER

The team of UK researchers found that if they blocked the POLQ gene - which has a role in repairing damaged DNA - radiotherapy was more effective.  Although it has always been considered that no one can claim a patent on anything from Nature, many companies in which these genes are present.  ACLU is trying to fight patent rights to parts of our bodies but there has been so much money made by companies holding these rights, charging exorbitant rates for testing (to which they hold the monopoly) that many illnesses cannot be researched in the United States as a result of these patents.  Of course, other countries are not restricted by US patents and some headway is being made elsewhere.  Myriad Genetics is one such company holding patents against whom ACLU is filing suit   To read about who owns your genes, click here.

If you watched 60 minutes on 4/4/10, you will see their discussion on who owns your genes and whether firms should be allowed to do so.  Since this has been going on for much more than a decade, it is reported that there are something like 10,000 of these patents.  Just as strangers wish to control that we cannot decide when to die, that women must bear children they do not want, and so many other potential controls on our bodies.  We are humans held hostage by people acting on religious myths, delusions, or just power hungry, righteous individuals who seem to have no boundaries between themselves and the rest of us.. Check the CBS presentation here.

Losing so many rights under bad administrative practice is bad enough, but losing our right to our own bodies because administrations have not protected us is unacceptable.

SCANDAL IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH AS CHRIST IS RESURRECTED. WILL HE SAVE THEM?

Catholics nuns seem not to respond to the calling as they did up to 1965 when there were 180,000 in the US and where there are only 60,000 today, many of whom are much older.  A 7/09 article by Laurie Goodstein for the NY Times wrote: " The Vatican is quietly conducting two sweeping investigations of American nuns, a development that has startled and dismayed nuns who fear they are the targets of a doctrinal inquisition...While some nuns say they are grateful that the Vatican is finally paying attention to their dwindling communities, many fear that the real motivation is to reel in American nuns who have reinterpreted their calling for the modern world.". Some of us, non-Catholics, remember friends who did not attend public school with us but went to Saint somebody's or other when nuns terrorized them, as they told it.

Pedophilic priests have done to the Catholic Churches what GW Bush did to the American financial system during his presidency.   Most distressing is that the Vatican spokesperson for the Pope who is written about in the NY Times in an article by Daniel J. Wakin and Rachel Donadio.

It is amazing that the claim is likening the attempt to get at the truth of the persecution of the Jews.  The spokesperson gets the job of pretending that the church can be trusted.  This man is putting the 'spin' on and playing the old game of refocusing. ('Lets' point to the Jews, whom lots of Catholics were traditionally trained to dislike, and deflect focus from our guilt', right?)

It is shameful that men who took oaths of celibacy were permitted to ruin the lives of young men and women...pain and dysfunction that would hold for many throughout their lives.

It would have pleased me if that this time of the calendar of Christianity, the Vatican could be honest but it sounds like they really think they are talking to and for God.  In my world that is called a delusion, not religion.

HAPPY EASTER TO THOSE WHO OBSERVE IT
