PRO-LIFE HYPOCRISY

There might still be  few Christians who would ask, "What would Jesus do?' but there are others of us who are asking, "What would Mitt do?  The answer to this, with his views on anti-abortion, is very frightening to women who thought we had laws to protect us from religions to which we do not subscribe actually taking control of our lives.

Steve D of Daily Kos writes on what has been happening in Georgia lately.  It is beyond my comprehension why an American terrorist group is allowed to continue in the United States with such seeming immunity from justice.

How many women in America must be humiliated with vaginal probes, sickening routines to emotionally harass women before legal abortions can be accomplished, or suffer in areas where abortion clinics are forbidden to function even though abortion is legal by Federal law.

Most of us grew up with the belief that our government would prevent the 'bad' guy from winning for long. We do have an Attorney General, don't we?  Do local police just turn a blind eye to what is going on?  How many clinicians have to be wounded or killed before the hypocrisy of pro-life becomes evident to all?

TROUBLE: STUPID CAN'T BE CURED

Joshua Holland wrote another provocative article. This time he writes:
You Can’t Have Bipartisanship if the GOP Base is Psychotic After defining psychosis, he justifies his diagnosis by the following statistics:

• “Do you believe Barack Obama was born in the United States, or not?” Yes 42%, No 36%, Not Sure 22%.

• “Do you believe Barack Obama wants the terrorists to win?” Yes 24%, No 43%, Not Sure 33%.

• “Do you believe ACORN stole the 2008 election?” Yes 21%, No 24%, Not Sure 55%.

• “Do you believe Barack Obama is a racist who hates White people?” Yes 31%, No 36%, Not Sure 33%.

• “Do you believe your state should secede from the United States?” The answer here is Yes 23%, No 58%, Not Sure 19%. On this basis, Kos declares: “42 percent of Republicans aren’t really patriotic.” Among Republicans in the South, secessionism is stronger at Yes 33%, No 52% Not Sure 15%.

He qualifies his observations by saying, "But only on its face. They’re not actually psychotic, because the reality they hold was carefully crafted for them not only by extremists on the wingnut blogs, but by the mainstream leaders of their party and by Fox News, a major cable outlet." Rather than assuming these people are psychotic, they seem to resemble sheep who will follow a wolf in sheep's clothing, misleading them all the way to their own losses for which they take no self-responsibility.

AN HOUR LATE AND A DOLLAR SHORT

Condaleeza Rice: visiting Libya We haven't been there since 1953. After the length of time she has been in her position as Secretary of State, should we really be cheered that she has finally begun dialogue 4 months before she will likely no longer hold that office and the Administration may make a different statement of where the US stands in relation to Libya?

McCain defining himself as an agent of change: While claiming to be a maverick, he has apparently voted 90% of the time with Bush. Some reviewers described the dropping of the balloons at the convention as more exciting. The Daily Kos picks up that theme: "As Senator John McCain accepted the Republican nomination for president, he and his supporters sounded the call of insurgents seeking to topple the establishment, even though their party heads the establishment." Roger Simon, in Politico.com, also points out the balancing act that Mr McCain must perform to reach the White House. (BBC News: 9/5/08)

McCain as an agent of change: ST. PAUL, Minn. 9/5/08 (AP) - John McCain, a POW turned political rebel, vowed Thursday night to vanquish the "constant partisan rancor" that grips Washington as he launched his fall campaign for the White House. "Change is coming," he promised the roaring Republican National Convention and a prime-time television audience.

"Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight for what's right for our country," he urged in a convention crescendo.

This was all being said while his VP did nothing positive about what the Republicans would do, but concentrated on often inaccurately attacking Obama. David Axelrod, Mr Obama's chief strategist, dismissed Mrs Palin's speech as "what politicians do when they don't have a record to run on". It is impressive to see how the Republican party is trying to reinvent itself, claiming change, while it is business as usual: Abortion forbidden, environmental issues set aside, more tax relief for the wealthy, continuation of the war in Iraq, more promises previously given and broken by the party, where do the broken promises of the party end. Does McCain really think he is the whole party? I would assume, though they may not have been at the convention, there are many who would soundly disagree with him on that delusion should he have it.
