GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN FINALLY AVERTED

It is inconceivable to me that a group of people got elected to represent the people and clearly went to Washington with the explicit view of representing their own religiously founded views against women's right to their own bodies.  What is more horrifying, is that really don't see women as only baby-making machines but do not even want to protect them against cancer, HIV, STDs, as well as conception by not allowing them birth control.  How far have these Neanderthals turned back our clocks?

It amuses me that these are the same people who decry sharia law.  Do they honestly think they treat women better than the Taliban?  What was the first thing they did on arrival to the House?  Rather than think about how to help our working poor who are losing jobs, unable to find new ones, they figured out how to attempt blackmail  by refusing to vote favorably on bills that made sense unless their multiple sadistic attachments were also accepted.  Are these the people we want in our government?

Maybe someday, those who feel powerless and vote to 'make statements' will learn their statements are simply destructive when more incompetent people go to Washington.

WHO'S REALLY RUNNING THE COUNTRY?

Ir is astounding to hear the TeaPartiers demanding that they will not compromise on any of the non-budgetary additions they have attached to the budget bill put up for ballot. While their goals sound quite reasonable on paper as seen on the tea Party Nation (TPN) site there is nothing realistic about their attempt for a solution to achieve tham.

I can't imagine how the Republicans were able to force the Democrats to allow a continuation of tax cuts for the rich.  Since then, the Republicans believe they can shut the government down and blame it on Obama.

As old as I am, I have never seen as ignorant a group of representatives elected.  This group  came in under lies, promising to lower the budget by 100 billion dollars with absolutely no sense of what that would do to middle class and the total economy recovery.  They are certainly marching to a different drummer that an ethical or moral one with any compassion for the less fortunate.  I wish I could see that they are anything less than ignorant or evil, influenced by powers invisible to the population at large.

The next few days will see if we are thrown into crisis or whether the Senate and the President have the power to control this unfeeling, runaway group of legislators.

Stay tuned..........

POLITICS AT A CROSSROADS

Hooray for the people of Wisconsin who are finally getting a clue about just how much they have been manipulated and lied to by politicians for whom they had previously voted.  Assistant Attorney General Joanne Kloppenburg  won over incumbent state Supreme Court Justice David Prosser.

Naturally there will be  recount.  With good luck finally going to the true Americans, Kloppenburg's win will hold.

There seems to always be a straw that finally breaks the camel's back.  Scott Walker seems to have been that for Wisconsin politics.  Those governors who followed Walker to try to break the back of the unions are also having great difficulty.

Ohio's union rights battle is headed for a November referendum.  Some of these high handed Governors might just learn that the people are not game pieces but, rather, real people who represent our society at large.  Elected officials are supposed to represent those people, not big money as they are currently seeming to do.

THE BLAMERS ARE AT IT AGAIN

Question frequently being asked is, "If the government shuts down, who is to blame?"  Who teaches them journalism.  If a finger of blame is pointed it does nothing to help with the issue of a shut down government and conveniently moves the focus to a non-relevant topic.

Sadly, the Tea Party is holding the government hostage and will do the same kind of witless damage to many lives that the 'Alleged' man of God, Pastor Jones did when he burned the Koran.  The Tea Partiers are as yet so inexperienced with the real working of this country and are as knowledgeable as your average fifteen  year old.  Mpte that IO say your average, not all fifteen year olds, mince those above average can probably reason circles around them and probably know their American history and mid-East geography better than the newly elected representatives seem to know.

Kent Conrad, Senate Budget Chair is surprisingly encouraging.  I an article written by Roger Hickey, he quotes Conrad :  ""Representative Ryan's proposal is partisan and ideological. He provides dramatic tax cuts for the wealthiest, financed by draconian reductions in Medicare and Medicaid. His proposals are unreasonable and unsustainable.

"His plan is most troubling because it lacks balance. A balanced long-term deficit reduction plan would include discretionary spending cuts, including defense; entitlement changes; and tax reform that simplifies the tax code, lowers rates, and raises revenue. That is what the president's bipartisan Fiscal Commission proposed. Representative Ryan's plan, on the other hand, fails to include savings in defense and actually reduces revenue. The result is that his plan relies on deep cuts in the safety net for seniors, children, and other vulnerable populations, as well as deep cuts in critical areas like education, which are needed to promote long-term economic growth."  For the whole article, click here.

The countdown is on.  Will enough of our citizens see through the rhetoric and realize that 98% will be hurt while 2% will benefit at the expense of the integrity of the country..

BUDGET CRISIS TO END ON APRIL 8 - ONE WAY OR ANOTHER

Making budget cuts on the back of the poor is about as logical as fining people whose checks bounce for insufficiency of funds.  If they have no money, what idiots expect them to pay fines?  Why not have people who cannot pay fines expect to do hours of public service to work it off?  Banks could consider whatever they have to write off in that fashion as their contribution to the society at large.?.Our government is in a rut as many parents are who only know how to discipline their children by depriving them of 'privileges' which they usually stop enforcing anyway.

Today, the Boston Globe has an Editorial that states:

Yet another case of laying budget crisis at labor’s fee  To read this editorial, click here.

We will know on Friday just what the 'new blood' of representatives who are themselves 'government' will say about the government (that is they) is the problem.  Never did that thought ever strike me as having truth until I began to see who had made it in the elections last November.

With so many people out of work today, it makes me wonder from where the donated millions to Michelle Bachmann's campaign is coming.  The middle class has not been helped by her despite her championing of the Tea Party..  She is against giving but not against taking....ah, but that is for another blog.

Meanwhile,  we will all wait on tenterhooks for the Friday disclosure about whether the government closes down or not.

HTO WHERE DOES GOOD HUMOR DISAPPEAR ON SUNDAY TV?

At the risk of starting another conspiracy theory, I must admit questioning who is behind current TV programming.  The world news is pretty depressing these days.  Unemployment is at its highest since decades ago, we are losing our soldiers on two fronts, and  we must face the idiocy of many of our politicians and 'wanna-be' elected to high office totally unprepared.  In all, it is difficult to remain cheerful even for us optimists.

Tonight,  I wanted to watch TV so I checked out 'The Guide".  The movies listed (other than pay, which I don't do) the first was about a terminally ill woman, next a drunken ill-mannered superhero in rehab.  Flipping channels (all in prime time) there was a witness to a drug king fearful for his life, Fronrtline offered a documentary on the lack of care our government has given returning military personnel with PTSD.  They are often not diagnosed or given a purple heart or any support.

By now, pretty disillusioned.  I found the Great Santini, a movie about a Marine disciplinarian who distanced his wife and son with his sadistic tactics,   By now my choice seemed to be limited to sobbing hysterically,  turning off the TV, or pouring myself a stiff drink.

I  found myself alone with a 15 year old relive earlier in the day..  He had experienced the joy of Bill Cosby as a stand-up comedian.  I played the Best of Bill Cosby CD for him which included all of the Noah's Ark bit.  The boy was playing with his computer so I asked if if he would like me to turn the CD off.  He looked at me with a smile and asked if he could like to hear it all.  He thought it very funny and was enjoying it!  I was so aware of the timeless kind of humor we miss from Red Skelton, George Carlin, Buddy Hackett, Alan Sherman, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Andy Kaufman, Lily Tomlin, Jonathan Winters, Bob Newhart, The Smothers Brothers. Godfrey Cambridge, Mort Shall, Rowan & Martin, Billy Crystal, Mel Brooks, Jackie Mason, Elaine May and Mike Nichols. and so many others who didn't need to comment on Lisa Campanelli's body parts to be funny.

This is not meant to disparage the good comics who are on only late at night...Colbert, Stewart, Kimmel, Fallon, Leno, Ferguson, Maher, Letterman and O'Brien.  Jeff Foxworthy stands out with his group as offering kind humor, stuff we can relate to and laugh with..

THINGS THAT DARKEN LIFE

Yesterday as I wrote my blog it appeared as written, but when it got published it was triple or quadruple spaced and nothing I could do in edit changed it when published.  Blogspot must have been having a bad hair day.

When things always worked as I am now trying them, but now don't, it becomes stressful.  There is never a 'help' tab, or, if computer-related it is unavailable.

I've noted that the phone usually rings when I am unable to answer it,  or quickly enough.  I may have forgotten to take the remote to the bathroom with me; I am in the basement and the phone is 35 feet away; I am reading the last four pages of a novel, excited to find out how it ends; or I will miss something I have been watching on TV.   Expletives, I learned, do not help though I love to use them,  I'm beyond being shocked, but  many around me are not so it is amusing to watch their disapproving faces.  (Apparently, being profane is something that should have been given up by the time this many  decades of my life have passed..and should have been in yesterday's blog as things that lighten life.)

I'll try to keep peace with the poltergeists who torture me, make things commit suicide off my counters, cause the typo fairy to dance on the keyboard, and generally make me wonder why life is so difficult.   I will seek a new identity when my professional one no longer fits.  Instead of psychotherapist, I will just be a modern version of Greta Garbo 'vanting to be alone'. To keep stress from my being, I will embarrass my adult children, shock my grandchildren and amuse my great grandchildren just because I can.

When I get old I won't have to wear purple.  I already do.  But I shall use foul language because it more accurately expresses my feelings about life right now.  I will be even more candid than I am accused of being now, if that is possible.; it beats climbing a mountain or dropping out of a plane with a parachute or some of the other things people do to prove they still are 'with it'.  I'll even enjoy every bit of it because I will avoid the things that darken life such as having a pet die because I won't have one.. My necessities are few.  I'll even avoid discussing politics, religion and how to raise children with people who want advice they have no intention of taking..  That really brings one down.

Things that darken one's life are so subjective.  Each of us knows what they are.  We don't always know or are able to avoid them.  For that reason, in order to maintain balance, learn to treat yourself to something good every time you resolve a frustration.  Try it.  You might like it.
