HAS ALL THE HATRED AND DEMAND TO TAKE THE GOVERNMENT BACK FINALLY BROKEN THROUGH CIVILITY AND SANITY?

From Palin's maps with gun sites marking the targets, (see Maddow blog here) To the vitriol of Limbaugh, Beck, Bachmann and others, it seems no wonder that another misfit tries to solve his perceived problems.  Just as anti-abortionists take no responsibility for the death, by shooting outside a church, one has to wonder just how long Americans are willing to put up with the violent rhetoric we to which we have been subjected and which has been escalating since the majority of Americans voted Obama  to the Presidency.  There is no secrecy in our society as to the degree of hatred Republicans have felt, stirred to expression by some media,  for Obama to have been elected President two hears ago.

YouTube gives some lovely examples as to how easy it is to misinterpret the meanings behind statements of determination as, for example, in the second verse of the Star Spangled Banner.  Most of ujs have never heard it and I don't suppose it will pass Supreme Court Challenge as to whether it is 'politically correct' any longer.  Click here to hear it sung. The group hearing it does not seem to understand that it is the elected government which decided whether we are to fight our enemies...not individual or self-appointed posses.

Read Glenn Beck's call to violence just last October, click here.  Quoted from the article is:  Beck portrays Obama, Democrats as vampires, suggests "driv[ing] a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers." On his March 30, 2009, Fox News show, Beck aired a graphic portraying Obama and Democrats as vampires and said: "The government is full of vampires, and they are trying to suck the lifeblood out of the economy." Beck then suggested "driveing] a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers." Beck returned to that imagery on his January 19 radio show, warning listeners that progressives are "vampires" who now have a "taste of blood" and are "gonna start getting more and more violent."

With so many of the things politicians and talk shows say, some would like to pretend the past is a blank slate.  Despite the speeches of Palin, Bachmann, Beck, and so many others finding their way to YouTube for all to see and hear,  we have an article blaming the Left for the violence!  Click here to be impressed with the degree of rewritten history and denial in this blog by Erica.  Haven't the bullies learned by now that guns and violence are not the way to make our country better?.

LIFE AND HOPE ARE STILL VISIBLE---JUST NOT IN CONGRESS MUCH

On an abandoned street in Brooklyn, artists have chosen to fill the empty shop windows that made for desolate feelings that kept people from walking them.  This lowered the customer rate at a local deli and a pharmacy on either end of the empty block of stores.  Check the video after the commercial by clicking here.

Rush Limbaugh, on the other hand, (pun intended) chose to bypass insignificant problems like terrorism, bigots, racists, homophobes, unemployment, Americans dying from lack of health care, children malnourished, and other more trivial complaints from those less fortunate than he, and makes his great cause:  "The objective is to stop liberalism wherever it is"  For those who have had too much of Rush and stopped watching or listening to him but want to see just how far some of our country's folk have descended, click here.,

However, not all people are as generous and objective as Rush (said most sarcastically) such as Minnestoa's Bridge to Benefits Program.  We need more of these.  Click here for details.

When all we hear from the media are hours of endless loop on the oil spill or any tragedy du jour, it would be nice for someone to think of a show that focuses on the many attempts by working people to make life easier for brethren.  Admittedly, even some rich people indulge in similar personal gratification.  Helping people might just surprise some as to how good one can feel to see others given some hope for the future and some faith that they are not all alone in the world.

IS ALL SPEECH FREE? NO, IT IS NOT!

Opinions are free. Plotting to overthrow the government, as well as I recall, gets capital punishment. It seems to me that many don't realize they are crossing a very serious line. I can't help but wonder who is minding the store on this. Is no one paying attention who is in a position to legally put a stop to this treasonous oratory?

Actually it may be wise for the non-Republicans to let the Republican party continue on its road to self-destruction as it seems the direction it is currently headed. But I can't help wonder what it says about the citizen's who feel differently. If not legally prohibited, it is certainly morally prohibited to neglect to warn authorities if someone is threatening suicide. Limbaugh is not making a threat to personally take action to cause Obama to fail. However, Michelle Bachman is urging people to take up arms against the government and win it back for the 'people'. Does the 'people' in that context mean those few who think as she does? If that is the case, isn't the way it is usually done is to debate, work towards speaking out then coming up with new and better ideas shared? How can a party who allowed our Constitution to be ignored for eight years, with no solutions to prevent the resulting chaos, presume to be critical of the new broom properly chosen by a democratic process and majority that IS offering new ideas and changes?

Apparently these vicious political critics forget that someone is filming and saving what they say, bringing it out for entertainment after the politician denies ever having said the 'whatever.' The database used for instant retrieval even from speeches made many years ago is wondrous. The snake oil salesman can no longer take your money and run off to a town where you can't find him.

IGNORANCE SHOULD NO LONGER BE TOLERATED

In Tanzania, there is a belief that Albinos, for which they are being murdered, are worth money so their parts can be used for Witchcraft. It is believed that 53 Albinos have been murdered for their 'parts' in the past two years. Consequently, 1000 Albinos living there are in perpetual terror for their lives. For more detail, click here. One year ago, Mariam Staford Bandaba of Tanzania, had a hand chopped off and the other arm had to be amputated half way up. She lived but the government will no longer shelter her. She had the courage to name her attackers and now must live among them in continuing terror.

When people act out of ignorance that is perpetuated through brainwashing, tradition, religion, or whatever else keeps the ignorance alive, it cheats too many of our people caught ignorant, from which they cannot but resist change, having been taught to reject other views and having no innate ability to learn or reason for themselves. Their ignorance justifies their actions to them as the murderers of abortion doctors, in the name of saving life!

FGM, female genital mutilation, also called female circumcision, is yet another tradition out of ignorance. There is no reason other than a misogynist one, to justify this barbarism yet women keep the tradition alive by mutilating their daughters or other young girls. If they were medically educated or informed even close to the 21st C. science of the female body, the importance to stress reduction by clitoral stimulation and orgasm, they might begin to understand the ignorance of their actions.

The entire question of whether people should meddle with the ethnic or religious customs of others is a grave one. How one separates ignorance and cruelty from some of these practices and traditions is a serious problem. Maintaining human rights and safety for all humans is at threat by ignorance more than any other form of terrorism. We see that in our own country which is supposed to be so civilized yet we vote politicians into office who burst forth constantly with their ignorance. As long as ignorance prevails, the voters will vote those into office who agree with them and thus the cycle of ignorance gets perpetuated.

Some things have been proven so clearly that there is no longer an excuse for people to remain in faulty belief that the world is flat, there is no evolution; a God no one can produce tells the rest of us what to do through those self-appointed within a religion of their choice. When people go around spouting these ignorant-of-the-proven-truth facts, society should be able to give them less of a podium than we are currently as a society providing for them. We should stop making heroes out of the Rush Limbaughs and Glenn Becks of our society.

IF PROGRESSIVES ARE A THREAT, WHAT DO WE CALL REGRESSIVES?

For many years we have given women some small choices about their body and whether they wish to carry unwanted pregnancies to term. They usually have no less than 18 years to worry about whether their giving their child up for adoption was sending their child to an abusive life or worse.

Our society finally did enough testing to realize that women's brains, while different than men's, are equally intellectually capable and competent. We have much scientific proof of that fact. Women have proven their right to vote, work to support families as a single parents or in two-parent families. Today women have not yet achieved total equality, by any means, but there is a light at the end of that tunnel. They are no longer a man's chattel and can own their own finances and sign contracts.

It may have taken a thousand years to get there but in one single speech, we realize there are still men fighting those changes and, worse, they are strong voices with relatively large audiences are, So many other Regressives like Glenn Beck, Bob Grant, Rush Limbaugh, Phyllis Schlafly, and too many others are holding us to the misery it took generations to give up. John Derbyshire of the National Review thinks that canceling all that the Suffragettes achieved and taking away women' right to vote is just a dandy idea. For these backward ideas, read Steve Bene's excellent article here. It makes the notion of rebooting some people's brains quite appealing. A new operating system might be a decided improvement for some of the brains that keep hiccuping in the past and can't move on to the present. Instead of thinking that forward moving ideas like Da Vinci are heretic, perhaps we should view those who would keep so many in bondage and the ruts of the past as heretics?

Just afters I finished writing this, I came across an article adding everything to what I might have said, had I thought to say it. Click here.

PSYCHOLOGY 101: DENIAL AND PROJECTION

Denial by the birthers (mostly with Republicans doing the talking) might do themselves a favor and discuss their behaviors with someone who knows them and can give them some feedback...like a good psychiatrist.

Racism Is the Prime Cause for Debunked Obama Birth Certificate Conspiracy Theory By Liliana Segura, AlterNet. Posted July 28, 2009. This is a well written article explaining the dynamics behind some of the present, unbelievable to most of us, hateful and derogatory words coming form the Republican side of politics.

While I don't have video to demonstrate, Rush Limbaugh has been stating, regularly, recently on his show that Obama is a very angry man. While he has every right to be one, I do not find him disproportionately so in any of his actions or speeches. However I would hardly call Limbaugh a man without hatred...and it doesn't take watching and looking too deeply to notice his targets of hatred. This man, dear readers, is a living demonstration of projection..so you can just watch one of his shows and skip the module explaining it in your psychology class on emotional defenses.

HOW TO HAVE A VOICE IN POLITICS

Realizing that politics are like beauty...in the eyes of their beholder. First, do lots of introspection to decide to which party you should pledge allegiance. If you are above average intelligence and not running for office, you should have quickly realized that is a trick question. You should pledge allegiance to the flag of America, not to any single party. To be true to yourself, you should figure out what you believe in and follow that trail. However, if you are weak and without substance, fall in line with the radio host of your choice...the one that shouts the loudest, looks strong and lies when he has to make the most people get riled up to whatever his 'cause du jour' may be, Don't question truth. If it is said on television it must be true, right?

As a voter, you can decide which issues are most important to you. If you don't like to march alone, pick the candidate who promises the most things that appeal to you and never question what it will take for that person to deliver them. 'Campaign promises' is a meaningless phrase made up to belittle someone who might offer you, a stranger, the Brooklyn Bridge, cheap, out of the goodness of his heart just because he likes you on sight. You can't knock that sort of kindness. Because he makes good eye contact and has a pleasant voice and a kind face, you immediately know you can trust him.

When you hear today's Republicans say they are the party of Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, do not hurt their feelings and remind them that both those great presidents have died and the party's objectives are now to provide a better place for all, providing they all become Fundamental Christians, re-elect the candidate saying this, and remain silent as the country crumbles around them.

If you feel inclined to vote as a Democrat, be prepared to be defined as a liberal, even if you are not. You may have to put up with party leaders who will follow the Constitution even when you don't want them to do so, rather than deviate from it when it allows them to call their own misinformed shots, according to the other party. Be prepared to hear why decisions are being made and thus take on the worries of the Administration as if they were your own. Transparency is a ploy to keep you involved and caring about what is going on in Washington, to mislead you into thinking you can influence your own future.

Once you have picked your side, remember that in this game you can change partners any time you want to dance to a different tune. That is why they are called political parties. You can join the sore losers or the party elected by the majority of the population who are looking for change. In the spirit of 'fifty million Frenchmen can't be wrong', keep your eye on the changes for which they are hoping. The current President has already been in office 100 days and not yet met all his campaign promises, so beware. Any gains in those 100 days might just have been beginner's luck and those betting on his now being a loser, might yet win, even if it means the collapse of the country. After all, winning is the goal, isn't it...even if winning means the country loses? After all, top political minds like Rush Limbaugh are counting on it.

Lastly, in order to avoid becoming hopelessly confused, listen to only one party. That way you can assure yourself the truth at all times. After all, since all parties think differently, pick one and just go with it...it will all average out in the end (which might be nearer than you imagine, depending on which one you pick).

THE TWO FACES OF FREE SPEECH

Free speech is important in our democracy yet there are boundaries to everything. We have already adopted the rule (law?) that you may no longer falsely yell fire in a crowded theater. I know little of laws that aren't beaten into us daily, like not going through a red light, not cheating on income taxes, not breaking and entering, stealing and all those obvious to us through daily living. However, it is less clear to me what we do with radical media who are inciting revolution, death to Obama, overthrow of the government they believe is fearful to their beliefs, even plan revolution.

Max Blumenthal wrote for the Daily Beast on 5/1/09 "Armed Revolt in the Obama Era? Right-Wing Gun Nuts Share Their Paranoid Worldview. Read his highlighted report and you will see immediately the 'slippery slope' thinking that is being fostered by a few hateful media gurus making money off spreading lies and fear.

Is it not time that the FCC, or some agency which can legally monitor these public broadcasts, do something about the actual lies being spread? MoveOn.org is calling for impeachment of Judge Bybee. His crime is interpreting too freely the use of torture. One has to ask the question 'where does misinterpretation of laws and outright lying begin and end?'.

Sean Hannity on radio:: "On the March 18 broadcast of his radio show, Sean Hannity blamed congressional Democrats for the AIG bonuses, falsely asserting that they voted for the bonuses when they voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Hannity stated, "Now, if you're upset about this, you need to understand something, that there's a reason this happened. Every single Senate Democrat voted for those bonuses. Every -- almost every Democrat in the House voted for those, because they voted for the stimulus bill. And by the way, Republicans did not." In fact, as Media Matters for America has documented, the economic recovery act did not require that AIG pay bonuses. Rather, the relevant provision in the act, which was based on an amendment by Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), restricted the ability of companies receiving money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to award bonuses in the future."

The American Politics Journal reports on Rush Limbaugh's 20 years of lies and hate. I see that there is a strong line to be drawn between the right to freely express an opinion and calling disciples to illegal action. At the height of the war against abortion, there was a call to kill doctors performing them. The doctors houses were picketed and families and children suffered greatly. Something is wrong with that picture. The group even killed some doctors in the name of saving lives!! It goes beyond the ability to express, verbally, an opinion when innocent people are killed.

We have heard for a long time that there are armed militia ready to revolt. Is this what we wish to develop, American citizen terrorists killing our own people?

FOSTERING REVOLUTION: FOX NEWS?

Since I am neither a lawyer nor Constitutional scholar, I naively believed if you went public with pleas to start a revolution that it was considered tyranny and was not rewarded kindly. I guess I was wrong. Whatever happened to patriotism, supporting the President who has been duly elected, saluting the flag, standing up and holding your hand over your heart as the Star Spangled Banner is being played? When we forgot to pass out the Handbook for Illegal Aliens to Pretend to be American, we should have made more copies to go to all Republicans, as well. They seem to have forgotten about Unity, graciously losing, and patience. My guess is they are bored after the exciting last twelve years. With Clinton they had pornographic Congressional sessions. With Bush, eight years of trying to guess what the truth really was that they were expected to support in lock step.

While I am quick to criticize whatever I believe to be wrong, dangerous, and almost everything Bush 43's administration did, I never advocated Revolution. I just impatiently waited for the years to pass so that we could elect a President who was actually fit for the job. Now that we have one, too many people expect him to part the ocean of differences between political factions. While President Obama has made many efforts to pull Republicans with particular expertise into his Administration, too many have made themselves look politically rigid, like Judd Gregg did.

My fantasy is that there is a man behind the Republican curtain, acting like a Wizard of OZ, calling the Republican shots. Who might that be? Limbaugh, Gingrich?...probably not, because the curtain has not yet parted to reveal the 'Reverend Jones' who is busily mixing Republican Kool-Aid. There is absurdity in the tea-bagging, supposed purpose (too much taxation). Taxes have gone down for 95% of the country with representation. I also wonder if the people we see on camera are paid 'extras' as the ad makers against the changes in laws for same-sex marriage found.

L.A. Progressive believes it is Rush Limbaugh. Actually, the published comments are the most fun to read, as one wrote: "Flush Dimbulb and his sycophantic minions, are a scary group. He is a legend in his own mind, the Pied Piper of the bitter, and ignorant." It would appear the tea-baggers want the government overthrown. When last I looked, I thought plans to overthrow the government were rewarded with more than a slap on the wrist. I also wonder if we, the overtaxed citizens, are expected to clean up the mess from the million tea bags planned to be thrown in Washington? If so, I firmly object to their demonstration. We have freedom of speech, which dumping teabags does not represent. What do they not understand about the difference between speech and action?

SO MUCH FOR THE DREAM OF UNITY, WINNERS AND LOSERS

It seems that the Media is now in a contest which will ultimately prove which is the most powerful by proving they can make the biggest distortions and mangle the truth while sustaining their viewership. Rush Limbaugh has been proven in lies for so many years it amazes me that so many people still believe him. It doesn't really matter that people believe him because he is Rush, but they believe him when all logic flies away in front of their face.

Posted by Matt Corley, Think Progress at 2:31 PM on March 23, 2009. Fox News' Senior Vice President for Programming admitted that the network is consciously aiming to be "the voice of opposition" to the Obama. Fox News has wasted no time in opposing the Obama administration's agenda. For example, the network has unleashed a steady drum beat of misinformation and propaganda against the Employee Free Choice Act. In fact, when it comes to challenging the Obama administration, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes has compared the network to "the Alamo."

Major media ought to go to some kids' sports games to learn about team play. We are in a mess. Emotions are volatile and the ambience in most places feels and sounds dangerous to our normal way of 'live and let live' life. Meanwhile we have another loose cannon in Michelle Bachman. Posted by Steve Benen, Washington Monthly at 10:50 AM on March 23, 2009. "Crazy Rep. Michele Bachmann Calls for Armed Revolution" Bachmann appeared over the weekend on the First Team radio show with John Hinderaker and Brian Ward, speaking about the horrible stuff that the Democrats are doing: "I'm a foreign correspondent on enemy lines and I try to let everyone back here in Minnesota know exactly the nefarious activities that are taking place in Washington." "Steve Benen, Matt Corley,

NON-BELIEVERS/DENIALISM

In my naivety, for many years I thought non-believers were those who did not believe in God (more specifically, originally, in a Christian God). However, as I look around today's world, the non-believers cover a multitude of events and subjects to hold up civilization's advances, enlightenment, and opportunity to allow history to prevent the future from making the same mistakes.

Sometimes it is more difficult to figure out where the greatest dangers lie. Is it more dangerous to believe everything you hear from Rush Limbaugh? Non-believers did not accept a book several years ago that listed what he said (on the left page) and the truth and references to prove that truth (on the right page). Politicians in places of power, like Michelle Bachman, are a threat to our Democracy. She denies the efficacy of the Constitution.

What do we do with people who deny evolution, though science is pretty clear it is no longer a theory but a reality of Nature? On the other side are the believers of Roswell aliens having landed.

The deniers of the Holocaust are plentiful; and, believers that 9/11 was perpetrated and carried out by our own government exist.

There are deniers of Bosnian genocide. Denialism is a current plague in our country and elsewhere. Time is wasted in pointless debates where pseudo-'facts' are bandied and only serve to obfuscate any serious discussion points.

Equal to those denials above is destructiveness to morale everywhere in these trying times by negative people, the gloom and doomers, the people whose eyesight does not take them to the end of the tunnel, no matter what facts they are given. At the moment, most of these seem to be Republicans and we can only hope the next election will drop a few of these lock-step voters who seem to have no mind of their own or are totally dependent on the 'in numbers there is strength' so that they dare not go against their leaders.

WE'RE FALLING AND WE CAN'T GET UP

The TV political news reporters have descended to the depths of Middle School, pubertal intelligence. Perhaps they rode down the butler's elevator with the McCain campaign crew that seems to be in the same place. McCain's people have Obama (McCain ad, that is) with Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and all the phallic symbols they could muster, hardly subtly subliminal but rather right-in-your-face with it. It had all the elements of having been planned by Karl Rove's grandchild, if he has one. It has Kathy Hilton, mother of Paris, asking for her maximum donation back, it is reported.

It is beyond my capacity to imagine anyone who cannot see through the Republican lies and want to perpetuate the horror of the slow and torturous death the Bush administration has been causing America for the last eight years yet some want more of the same. Someone spoke today of The Evangelicals seeing that Bush got into office because they want to destroy our current system of government. If that was their intent, they succeeded because out Constitution was ignored and we have had a Congress and Senate of Bush rubber stamps until the last election two years ago. Are the American people coming out of their lethargy? Who is paying off the pollsters to keep saying that McCain is more popular than Obama?

Osama bin Laden said he would break the USA financially and he, too, has succeeded. To catch him, a rat, a mouse trap was set and people are surprised that Al Qaeda is still operative. Apparently Al Qaeda is now appealing to women and children to do their suicide bombing. What are they promising the women for the afterlife...72 Muslim studs in Allah's Heaven?

Why are we searching for terrorists coming from elsewhere? We seem to be growing them right here. Listening to the speakers like Rush Limbaugh and some of the religious fire and brimstone preachers who bleed the poor of their funds while brainwashing them into further poverty, makes me wonder why we have media. As Jon Stewart and others have shown daily, the media parrots one another. Someone did a video show with sound bites naming every kind of card imaginable that people are 'playing', the race card being only one of them. Can the media realize this is not a game? It is like the old video show, 'This is Your Life' and mine and everyone else's! Help, we as a country are falling and we can't get up!!!!

MORE ON MEDIA SLANT

It is always interesting to see what other nations think of us. It is also interesting to hear what media think of itself. This BBC reporter was critical of the reporting before and after the primary and is clear that the media will do nothing to change. Honesty from a journalist; how novel; how sad! It means journalists-turned-entertainers will continue to be self-serving, struggle to beat others to views which they can only hope have some accuracy. They feel little shame that their often-untrue comments, believed by those who trust them, actually influence voters and the outcome of elections, which I have come to see as the 'Rush Limbaugh effect'.

I was thrilled that one reporter, a woman from New Hampshire had to tell Chris Matthews, first to listen as he continued to talk over everyone, then to make the distinction that Iowa (where votes are public) and New Hampshire (where they are secret) differ as New Hampshire people consider it insulting to be asked for whom they voted.

Last night, Jon Stewart, on the Daily show showed those few second clips of many of the pundits spouting their incorrect predictions. It was like time lapse photography leading to the same conclusion, in effect, a loop. They start out listening to themselves, then begin to believe it is truth. His guest for the evening was Zogby of the polls. As only Jon Stewart can do, he was able to get Zogby to admit how little real value polls have for learning in advance what electoral outcome will be. While Jon Stewart is an entertainer, not a journalist, he fulfills both roles better than any of the journalists who are trying to be entertainers.

OPEN LETTER TO CHRIS MATTHEWS OF MSNBC

Since you have chosen to emulate Rush Limbaugh as an entertainer rather than a journalist, you have campaigned for your choice instead of reporting in an unbiased way. You have fallen off my list of media personalities whom I can respect, ergo watch. That will not change your life significantly, but it will change mine.

With much tension leading to final delight, I watched the results of the New Hampshire primary last night. One blogger believes that Diebold was tampered with though he repeats he has no evidence of it. Today another blogger was apparently mentioned in a tiny spot in the NY Times saying that you, Chris Matthews, helped Hillary win by your obviously biased, negative, mouthy stance. After all, the media also holds a bully pulpit and its misuse is as unconscionable as is the President's.

Buchanan thinks the media beat Hillary up and hurt her feelings which rallied women behind her. You, Chris Matthews obviously didn't recognize what the bright ones, the Dartmouth students, were able to see, that Hillary has spoken substance where Obama has not.

Hillary is right when she says it is the toughest glass ceiling to break through. How unwise of you to have allowed yourself to so blatantly advertise your disrespect for women to your large audience. You talk about your Catholicism frequently. Do you believe the Priests is to be respected while the Nuns are only their hand maidens?

Having tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, that you were not trying to damage Hillary, I blamed what you were saying on your producers. I now see how long I resisted believing that you had compromised your professional reputation and sold out to thinking that only you can be right on. You talk over the people to whom you have asked a question and you cut off people who disagree with your position. I am pleased that you were not successful in New Hampshire last night in totally manipulating voters your way.
